Year 12 Art Show and Design Technology Exhibition Year 12 Art and Design Technology students displayed their work at an evening for parents and friends held in the Gallery and Studio. Our students are to be congratulated for the high standard of work exhibited. Year 10 - 11 Leadership Seminar Mrs Russell and Year 11 Leaders ran a successful seminar with Year 10 school leaders earlier this term. Thanks to the staff of the R-10 schools for their support. The program ran from 4.30pm to 12.00pm and included worship, BBQ tea, guest speaker Kevin Taylor (2H Project), music and sessions on leadership, goal setting and resilience. Interschool Gymkhana Trinity College took 10 riders to Clare to compete in the Clare Interschool Gymkhana. Four students; Katie Hilton, Sarah Langdon, Bonnie McKerlie and Tasmin Williams represented the Senior School. They won the competition and Mrs Stansborough has a huge trophy to present to the College early next year. World Vision Australia Tennille Chambers State Coordinator and Renee Le Cornu SA/NT Youth Relationships Representative visited Trinity College to talk with student representatives about World Vision projects based around food security in East Timor for 2011. They also received a cheque for $1713.15 raised by students at a recent non-uniform day. Students from all schools participated in the fundraiser and the donation to World Vision will be added to money raised in a Regional effort including 18 schools and churches in the Northern region. Around the school
RYDA Program Each year the local Gawler and Barossa Rotary Clubs organise a Youth Driver Awareness Program for the Year 10 students on orientation in T.C.S. The students heard from Police, road accident victims, healthcare professionals and experienced driving instructors. One activity is to feel the affects of a car breaking suddenly and see the stopping distances at 25, 50, 60 and 80 kph. The car for this exercise was loaned by Steinborner Holden. Year 12 Retreat Students who are studying Year 12 in 2011 had the opportunity to attend our Annual Retreat held at the Mylor Baptist Camp this year. A full range of very challenging activities over three days exhausted both staff and students. Teachers shared personal stories, students took the 'leap of faith' and all were well fed and well looked after by camp supervisors. A highlight was the 'Pocket Positives' written by students to each other and presented at the end of the Retreat. Thank you to parents for supporting this valuable experience. A big thank you to Rev'd Dave MacGillivray for his hard work in running the Retreat for 140 TCS people. Staff Farewells Some significant and long term staff members have announced their retirement this year. Mr Richard Bednall has been Sportsmaster of Trinity College for 22 years. He has led the College on a path of excellence during this time. Mr Stephen Brookman has also been a teacher at Trinity College for 22 years. His involvement in Tech Studies, School Football and Year 9 camps will be long remembered. We also farewell Sean Fletcher, Lena Shevtsova, Kelly Tligi, Jane Nykke, Amanda Thompson (maternity leave), Robert Brown and Heather James. We thank them all for their contribution to TCS this year. Final Word A restful holiday to all and happy and holy Christmas wishes. Kym Reynolds |

From the Head My School Website This week the second incarnation of the My School website was due to be released. This release has quite rightly been delayed. The site has received significant media coverage and this is likely to increase now it has been further delayed. The intention of the site, to provide parents with more detail regarding schools is something Trinity College supports. Unfortunately, the systems that have been put in place by the site’s coordinating body to gather the information from schools have been a real concern. The first incarnation of My School essentially made public NAPLAN results. NAPLAN tests are sat in May of each year for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, and test aspects of numeracy and literacy. NAPLAN is one measure of performance and does help to provide feedback to individual students and to schools. School reports, feedback from teachers, diagnostic testing are other forms of feedback that go well beyond NAPLAN results. While Trinity has continued to do quite well in these tests, we encourage parents to keep these NAPLAN results in perspective as so much of the great education that occurs here is not picked up in these results. Independent Schools, as a group, have been quite critical of the processes that have underpinned other newer parts of the soon to be updated My School website. Additional financial data about each school will be available. In Trinity’s case, our financial data is easily accessible to parents anyway via the Annual General Meeting of the College. Each school in Australia has also been assigned a score known as an ICSEA (Index of Community I hope that when the website finally goes live it is in an accurate form.

Ambulance Cover at School Trinity College has an insurance policy with SA Ambulance that covers students for Accident Emergency. This policy will cover ambulance transport of students to the nearest appropriate place of medical aid in the event of an accident emergency. However it is quite limited cover and there are some specific exclusions that parents should note. This policy does not cover emergencies that are non school related; eg pre existing conditions like diabetes, asthma, allergic reaction, substance abuse. This is a new condition on the policy that has only come to light in 2010. Please note that a short journey in an ambulance is in the order of $850. The College would recommend that parents take out personal family ambulance cover that can then be used to cover ambulance transport costs if the school policy does not apply or make sure that personal medical insurance includes appropriate ambulance cover. College staff administering First Aid will continue to call ambulances if the circumstances warrant as they will always act with caution. Stephen Rosier
